The Croft House is a British clothing brand rooted in the Scottish landscape and heritage, established in the autumn of 2012 by Louise. What began as a small “kitchen table” business, with stock piled high in her dining room and Louise balancing picking and packing with caring for her newborn, has grown into a family-run enterprise. Louise’s husband now works alongside her, making The Croft House a true family business.
Based in rural Aberdeenshire in the North East of Scotland, Louise designs the collection, drawing inspiration from the Scottish landscape and traditional heritage patterns. The brand is known for its contemporary knitwear, with a particular focus on the fair isle technique. Customers can discover the inspiration behind each piece by reading the “designer’s notes” on the product pages.
The Croft House knitwear is designed and made in Scotland, using luxurious natural yarns sourced from British woollen mills. All cashmere is milled in Scotland, while wool is spun in Scotland or elsewhere in the UK. The brand is committed to sustainability, producing slow fashion with a focus on quality and longevity. Local manufacturing helps reduce the carbon footprint and ensures high environmental and welfare standards. Many garments are made using “zero waste” techniques, and packaging is minimised, using only recycled, recyclable, or biodegradable materials. The brand is phasing out plastic packaging and recycles any that cannot be reused or returned by customers. In February 2025, The Croft House became a B Corp certified business, reflecting its ongoing commitment to sustainability and improvement.
The collection is available exclusively through the brand’s website and occasional pop-up shops, with no wholesale partnerships, ensuring customers receive great quality at a great price. The Croft House community is global, with Louise regularly engaging with customers by email and phone, welcoming feedback and suggestions. The brand has a history of giving back, including an annual “Gift and Give” event and, from 2024, a pledge to donate 1% of every sale to People and Planet.
Dougal, the Skye Terrier, is the real boss of The Croft House. The Skye Terrier is an ancient Scottish breed, currently on the vulnerable native breeds list, with only 36 puppies born in 2023. The breed’s name comes from the Isle of Skye and it was popularised by Queen Victoria in the 19th century. The famous Greyfriar’s Bobby is believed to have been a Skye Terrier.
