Maude and Fox is a properly British clothing brand established in 2012, rooted in the tradition of British tweed and classic design. Their aim is to create garments that blend timeless style with a contemporary edge, ensuring each piece is built to last. The brand is known for its continual evolution, with loyal customers returning regularly to discover new collections and designs.
At the helm of Maude and Fox is Sue, who stepped away from her career as a Landscape Architect following neck surgery in 2011. During her recovery, she channelled her creativity into what would become a distinctive British brand. Inspired by a gap in the country clothing market—where many garments appeared interchangeable between men and women—Maude and Fox launched with two signature collections: the Country Pursuits range, and The Patriot range, created in response to the British pride surrounding the Olympics. Over time, these collections have been refined, and new urban country chic items have been introduced, including the latest Stripe range.
The journey has not been without challenges. Maude and Fox faced a significant setback when all their stock, including design prototypes, was stolen from their Dorset headquarters. Thanks to the support of their loyal customers, who lent them Maude and Fox garments to display at The British Shooting Show, the brand not only recovered but found a turning point in their story. This experience reinforced the close relationship between the brand and its customers, who are seen as friends and an essential part of Maude and Fox’s journey.
A memorable comment from a customer at the Great Yorkshire Show—“I'm too poor to buy twice”—highlighted the brand’s commitment to quality and value. Positioned between high fashion and casual wear, Maude and Fox’s clothing is practical, with a touch of British eccentricity and a strong focus on attention to detail.
Looking ahead, Maude and Fox intends to continue building on its established reputation in the tweed clothing market, creating genuinely British-made garments and pushing creative boundaries. Their customers remain central to their development, acting as their research and development department and partners in every new chapter.
