Bronte By Moon History

Abraham Moon & Sons, part of the MOON family, has a rich heritage dating back to the Victorian era. In 1837, the company was founded by Abraham Moon, who supplied yarn to local weavers in Guiseley, near Leeds. The business grew steadily, and in 1868, it officially became Abraham Moon & Sons Ltd. The original woollen mill was established in 1868, utilizing local spring water for manufacturing processes.

By the 1870s, the company was a leading player in the woollen market, known for their signature Grey Tweed fabric. Tragically, in 1877, Abraham Moon passed away in a carriage accident, and his son Isaac took over the business. In 1902, a fire destroyed the mill, leading to its reconstruction as a single-storey building with enhanced production efficiency.

In 1920, the Moon family sold their shares, and the company passed through various hands. By 1990, facing competition from man-made fabrics, the company focused on quality and the luxury market, working with major international brands. In 2009, Abraham Moon & Sons acquired Bronte Tweeds, enhancing their accessories division, now known as “Bronte By Moon,” reflecting their roots in Yorkshire and historic woollen mill. Today, the company remains a testament to their commitment to quality and fine craftsmanship.
