Cheaney Shoes History
Cheaney is a family-owned shoemaker that has been producing high-quality footwear in Northamptonshire, England since 1886. The factory made shoes exclusively for retailers before the founder’s grandson realized that the company needed its own brand to build its future.
The brand was made available to retailers worldwide after the company was sold to Church’s English Shoes in 1964. In 2009, the company was bought by Jonathan and William Church, who have been making fine shoes for five generations.
Cheaney shoes are still cut out and “closed” in Desborough, Northamptonshire. During the First World War, the factory was busy producing stitched and screwed boots and shoes. After the war, the company expanded into export markets and continued to maintain high quality standards in terms of manufacture and materials.
